Frequently Asked Questions

Each surgical solution we create is 100% unique to the patient. We provide custom anatomical surgical solutions because we believe that each patient deserves the best possible outcome — one designed specifically for their unique anatomy and needs. We don’t just design pieces to fit into people’s bodies, we design products that help them reclaim their lives.
Your MedCAD solution begins with images of you. We ask for a special type of scan that gives us maximum detail, and convert that data into a 3D-CAD file. Next, we host a video planning session with your surgical team to talk through approaches to the procedure, keeping in mind the post-operative goals that are most important to you. Our team of technologists — made up of engineers and artists — then designs the implant as well as planning tools that can make for a more exact, less complicated procedure. These pieces are then manufactured by us in our own precision manufacturing plant. When it’s finished — as quickly as five business days from the planning session — it’s shipped directly to the hospital for sterilization and implantation.
Throughout the design and manufacturing process, your surgeon works with the same team, guaranteeing clear and consistent communication. Our teams are assembled from the best and brightest engineers and 3D sculptors, each offering their own expertise in anatomy, movement, and technological knowhow.
At MedCAD, we specialize in patient-specific medical devices, meaning each product is custom-designed based on a patient’s unique CT scan and their surgeon’s preference and approach. This allows us to create devices that fit anatomy exactly, ensuring the best possible outcome for the specific condition. “Off-the-shelf” products are pre-manufactured and available only in standardized sizes. While these products can be effective, they may not offer the same level of precision or customization as a patient-specific device, which is particularly important in complex or delicate surgeries.
Everything we do starts with patient scan data, which gets converted into a 3D-CAD file. Then, with surgeon input, we design, manufacture and deliver the associated medical devices.
A virtual surgical planning session is a necessary part of our process, allowing us to collaborate directly with surgeons to design and manufacture the most precise, patient-specific device. Our products allow for nearly unlimited customization, and the planning session is where we fine-tune those details. In the sessions, we discuss the specific case, preferences, and surgical approach to ensure that the final device is exactly right for the surgery.
US Federal law restricts this product for sale, distribution or use of these devices to, by, or on the order of a physician. If you qualify, it’s as simple as getting patient scan data and filling out our Service Request. [w/ link to Start a Case]

The CT / CBCT Protocol is a document with specific parameters for radiology to use when scanning a patient. The protocol ensures our design process starts off with the correct data and avoids having to rescan the patient.
